Preceded in death by parents; sisters, Anna Donz, Mary Williams, Catherine Phillips and Dorothy Shuster; brothers, George and Frank; and son-in-law, Donald Duncan. Survived by wife of 68 years, the former Pauline Harnichar; daughter, Dora Duncan, Jenner Township; son, Joseph M. Sr., married to Dr. Barbara Wingate, Woodhill, Pa.; grandchildren, David Duncan, and wife, Margaret; Dorene (Duncan) Gregory; Douglas Duncan; Darren Duncan, and wife, Renee; Laura (Duncan), and husband, Michael Swank; and Elizabeth Phillips; and great-grandchildren, Kathleen, Nicholas, Madeline, Sean, Katrina, Collyn, Samuel, Brittany, Joseph, Deanna, Alex, Austin, Darrian, Derrick, Larissa, Emily, David, Mary, Hannah, Sarah, Karie and Sara. Brother of Helen Zaveski, Bay Shore, N.Y.; and Dr. Lawrence Phillips Jr., married to Sara Mae Wachob, Round Hill, Va. Graduate of the former Boswell High School. World War II veteran of Merchant Marines. Retired employee of the former Johnstown Plant, Bethlehem Steel Corp. Joe loved his family, gardening and making baskets. Member of All Saints Catholic Parish. Viewing will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 409 Main St., Boswell, where vigil for the deceased will be held at 3 p.m. Friday.
