Edward J. "Hack"  Smith
SMITH – Edward J. “Hack,” 61, Jerome, died Nov. 27, 2014, at his home. Born Feb. 23, 1953, in Jerome, son of Edward J. and Helen L. (Lease) Smith. Preceded in death by parents and brothers, Donald L. and David N. “Pudge” Smith. Survived by brother, Raymond E. “Red,” married to Joyce (Clack), Charlestown, W. Va.; sister-in-law, Lois (Blough) Smith, Davidsville; numerous beloved nieces and nephews; and good friend, Gary “Garf” Blough, and his wife, Janie, Boswell. A 1973 graduate of Conemaugh Township Area High School. A retired coal miner, having worked for Bethlehem No. 78, Windber. A member of the UMWA. Was most recently employed by Green Gables Restaurant, Jennerstown, as a groundskeeper, a job he truly enjoyed. He also enjoyed spending time at Camp Bighorn. Hack’s generosity and fun-loving spirit were felt by his family, friends and neighbors, all of whom he gave a nickname. Viewing from 2 p.m. until time of service at 4 p.m. Saturday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 109 Church Road, Davidsville, with Pastor Denise Todero presiding.
