Life Story for Walter J. Sheftic

SHEFTIC (SZEWCZYK) – Walter J., 91, Richland Township, died Sept. 15, 2010, at Golden Living Center. Born Oct. 7, 1918, in Boswell, son of Charles and Frances (Lacz) Szewczyk. Preceded in death by parents; wife of 50 years, Joan F. “Sis” (Franke), on Jan. 3, 2007; two infant sisters; sisters, Mary Kubas, and husband, and Frances Shubic, and husband, Andrew “Mooney”; and brothers, Charles, and wife, Mary; Edward, and wife, Kathryn; and Thadeus “Butch.” Survived by daughter, Beverly, married Charles Charboneau, Saginaw, Mich.; grandchildren, Randy Charboneau, and wife, Wendy; and Kristin Charboneau; and great-grandchildren, Amanda, Amy and Adam, all of Michigan. Brother-in-law of Mary Szewczyk; William Franke, and wife, Gertrude; Rosalie “Rose” (Franke), and husband, William Miller; Annetta (Franke) “Tottie,” and husband, Robert Henry; Andrea (Franke), widow of Marshall Policicchio; and Ruth (Lape), widow of Donald Franke. Also survived by special nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Graduate of the former Boswell High School and attended W&J College on a basketball scholarship. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. Co-owner and operator of the former Sheftic Amusement Co., Cambria County Division. Member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Richland; Richland Post 849 American Legion; Menoher Post 155 VFW; and Boswell Lodge 1780 SOI. Co-founder and past board member of Windber Country Club. He was a Richland Township resident for the past 53 years. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 409 Main St., Boswell, where vigil for the deceased will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at All Saints Catholic Church, Boswell, the Rev. Father Justin Ratajczak, OFM, Conv., celebrant. Entombment, Grandview Mausoleum.
