Life Story for Robert L. Turner

Robert L.  Turner
TURNER – Robert L., 86, Jenner Township, (Ferrellton), died April 24, 2010, at Somerset Hospital. Born June 6, 1923, in Boswell, son of Raymond and Carlotta (Pyle) Turner. Preceded in death by parents; wife of 41 years, former Freda B. Spiker, on Aug. 27, 1990; and sister, Betty Thomas. Survived by daughters, Gloria, married to Greg Lohr, Jenner Township; Connie, married to Herman Lepley, Boswell; and Debbie Ankney, Derry; grandchildren, Mark Lohr, Julie Sarver, Kristy Ulery and Abby Ankney; and great-grandsons, Tyler and Turner Ulery and Kameron and Keeton Sarver. Brother of Raymond, married to Stella Jodlowsky, Acosta. Also survived by several special nieces and nephews. A graduate of the former Boswell High School, where he excelled in football and basketball. Also attended the former Indiana (Pa.) State Teachers College. Proud Marine Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater from February 1943 to November 1945 as a corporal. Participated in action at New Guinea, Cape Gloucester, Peleliu Palau Islands and Okinawa. Member of Iron Works Local 3, Pittsburgh. Avid hunter, fisherman, gardener and North Star Cougar fan. Viewing from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 409 Main St., Boswell. Viewing also from 10 until time of service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bethany United Methodist Church, Baskersville-Edie Road, Somerset, the Rev. Barry K. Ritenour officiating. Interment, Mount Zion Cemetery, Jenner Township, with military graveside rites accorded by Conemaugh Valley Detachment 287 Marine Corps League.
