GISEWHITE – Martha Elizabeth (Charley), 97, Johnstown, died Jan. 29, 2014, at Memorial Medical Center. Born Oct. 28, 1916, in Johnstown, daughter of Jaber and Bernetta (Zacharia) Charley. Preceded in death by parents; husband of 59 years, Herbert Winfield Gisewhite, on Dec. 2, 1999; son, Herbert John Gisewhite, in 1948; sisters, Emma Gisewhite, Lottie DeArmey, Anna Roberts, Mary Tighe and Josephine Kassouf; brother, George Sr.; son-in-law, Larry Benson; and special friend and sister-in-law, Irene Charley. Survived by daughters, Emma Jean Benson; Bernetta, married to Alvin Crislip; twin daughters, Michelle, married to Casey Schneck; and Patricia, married to Laurence Endler; grandchildren, Pamela McCullough, Karen Dolph (Allen), Kristina Jenkins (Earl), Kurt Crislip (Michelle), John Gennett and Paul Endler (Allison); great-grandchildren, Chelsea McCullough, Tyler McCullough, Alexandria Dolph, Jessica Dolph, Kristofer Celey, Michael Celey, Alexandra Celey, Joshua Celey, Kaitlyn Crislip, Kasey Crislip, Kollin Crislip and Daniel Gennett; and great-great-granddaughter, Valerie Celey. She was a 1935 graduate of Greater Johnstown High School. Martha was a devoted wife and mother, who had tremendous pride in her Lebanese heritage and loved cooking Lebanese food. Family was her greatest importance. Special appreciation to the entire staff at Country Manor, Jerome. Viewing will be held from 11 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 109 Church Road, Davidsville, the Very Rev. Father Donald E. Shadid, officiating. Interment, Forest Lawn Cemetery. In leiu of flower, donations may be made to Humane Society of Cambria County, 743 Galleria Drive, Johnstown, Pa. 15904, to honor Martha’s love of animals.
