Life Story for Geno DeRubis

Geno  DeRubis
DeRUBIS – Geno, 80, Tire Hill, died unexpectedly Nov. 19, 2010, at Memorial Medical Center. Born July 14, 1930, in Slickville, Pa., son of James and Ollie (DeFalco) DeRubis. Preceded in death by parents; brother, Dominick; and sisters, Yolanda Marra, Minnie Marra, Lena Sidone and Natalie DeRubis. Survived by wife of 56 years, the former Vera Brighenty; daughter, Karen, married to John Czerak, Westmont; grandson, Jacob, whom Geno adored; brothers, James, and wife, Lenny, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Frank, New York, N.Y.; sisters, Ann, widow of Angelo Amistadi, Tire Hill; Virginia, widow of James Lees, Riverside; and Madeline, married to Ernest Esposito, Johns- town; and numerous nieces and nephews. A 1949 graduate of Conemaugh Township Area High School. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Retired coal miner for Island Creek Coal Co., with 41 years of service. Member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Bens- creek for 53 years, where he served as an usher. Also a member of Conemaugh Township Fire Deptartment. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed listening to polka music and playing the accordion, which he also taught his grandson to play. Viewing from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 109 Church Road, Davidsville, where a vigil service will be held Sunday afternoon. Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Andrew’s Church, the Rev. Father Angelo J. Patti, celebrant. Committal, St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Geistown, with military honors by Menoher Post 155, VFW.
