Life Story for Frank P. Stern

Frank P.  Stern
STERN – Frank P., 88, Moonlite Park Road, Hollsopple, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior at 12:05 p.m. March 24, 2010, at the Presbyterian Home of Johnstown, where he was a resident for 2 1/2 years. Born Dec. 21, 1921, in Stoystown, son of Earl Sr. and Viola (Hockensmith) Stern. Preceded in death by parents; infant twin sisters; sisters, Dorothy Stern, Alice Lasure, Mary Ellen Sipe, Helen Bender and Rose Miller; and brothers, Benjamin, Earl Jr., Jack and William Stern. Survived by his loving and caring wife of 65 years, the former Ethel Gardner; loving daughter, Monna Lee, married to Paul Overbeck, Bedford; caring son, Mark Allen, married to the former Debbi Lowry, New Paris; grandchildren, Jeffrey Overbeck, and wife, Christina, Roanoke, Va.; Scott Overbeck, and wife, Shelby, Stratham, N.H.; Nicole Stern, Lititz, Pa.; Robyn (Stern), married to Kevin McMakin, Bedford; and Tate Stern, and wife, Theresa, Port St. Lucie, Fla.; and great-grandchildren, Jared and Mark Overbeck, Addisyn and Jule McMakin and Daniel, Grace and Jason Stern; also brothers, Herbert, and wife, Martha, Jenner Crossroads; Ernest, and wife, Gloria, Quecreek; and Marlin, and wife, Emily, Hollsopple. Frank served his country as a corporal in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 in the Aleutian Islands. He was employed by Sanitary Dairy for 42 years, where he was a refrigeration engineer until his retirement. He loved and served the Lord faithfully, attending Laurel Hill Gospel Tabernacle near Jennerstown. He was a deacon for many years and was active in many other church functions. He enjoyed working in his vegetable garden, caring for his lawn and raising and selling blueberries to many customers. He will be sadly missed by family and friends. Viewing from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 109 Church Road, Davidsville. Viewing also from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Laurel Hill Gospel Tabernacle, with Pastor Gary W. Anderson, presiding. Interment, Bakersville Cemetery.
