Life Story for Ellen "Ebby" Wolford (Horner)

Ellen "Ebby"  Wolford (Horner)
WOLFORD – Ellen “Ebby” (Horner), 87, Davidsville, formerly of Somerset Pike, Hollsopple, went home to be with her Lord Nov. 3, 2014, at Laurel View Village. Born Oct. 25, 1927, in Jenner Township, Somerset County, daughter of William and Savilla (Croyle) Horner. Preceded in death by parents, husband, Alton W., on Nov. 27, 1993; infant twin sisters, Elsie and Sadie; sisters, Dorothy Eppley and Louise Sturtz; and brothers, Harry, Ira “Smokey,” Dave and Elmer Horner. Survived by brother, Robert Horner, married to the former Nancy Blough, Boswell; sister-in-law, Betty Jane Horner, Ebensburg; and numerous nieces and nephews, including those she looked at as her own, Brian Horner, and wife, Barb; Bruce Horner, and wife, Wilma; Trish Leverknight, and husband, Alan; and Cindy Horner, and their families. A 1946 graduate of Conemaugh Township Area High School. Retired chief operator from the former Bell Telephone Co. Member of Centennial United Methodist Church, where she was treasurer and served on various committees and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She and her husband, Alton, enjoyed traveling together. She also enjoyed playing guitar, gardening and spending time with her horse, Tony. Ellen always made time for her family and friends and was willing to help anyone in need. Viewing will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 109 Church Road, Davidsville. Viewing also will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Friday at Centennial United Methodist Church, with Pastors Duane Slade, Wes Yoder and Jeffrey Bassette presiding. Interment, Thomas Mennonite Cemetery. Donations in Ellen’s memory may be sent to Alzheimer’s Association, 1100 Liberty Ave., Suite E201, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15222.
