Life Story for Billie Josephine Hodges (LaFollette)

Billie Josephine Hodges (LaFollette)
HODGES – Billie Josephine (LaFollette), 79, Boswell, Jenner Township, formerly of Gadsden, Ala., passed away July 27, 2014, at Windber Hospice from complications of cancer. Born Nov. 14, 1934, in Gadsden, daughter of the late Rev. Forney H. and Minnie V. (Walker) LaFollette. Survived by son, Robert C. Jr., and wife, Sherry, Sedro Wooley, Wash.; daughter, Mary Catherine Ward; grandchildren, Hannah Jo Hodges and Daniel Scott Hodges; sister, Betty Lynn LaFollette- Scott, Marysville, Tenn.; nephews, David, the Rev. Jerry and Jim; nieces, Donna and Laura; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Billie Jo attended Bethel College in McKenzie, Tenn., where she met the love of her life, the Rev. Robert C. Hodges Sr., and they married in 1955. She worked as a secretary for awhile, but eventually became a stay-at-home mom to raise her son, Robert, and daughter, Mary Catherine. She loved reading all types of books, doing crafts and was a wonderful seamstress. Billie also enjoyed good Memphis barbecue, and without question, Blue Bell ice cream. After moving to Pennsylvania, Billie Jo enjoyed going to auctions and furnished her little house in her own unique way. Special thanks to the Betty and David Lohr family and all her extended church and community family for helping her and keeping the faith. Billie requested that her body be donated to a university school of science and medicine in hope of helping others. A memorial celebration of her life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at Laurel Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Jennerstown, with Pastor Traci Bowman presiding. Arrangements by Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Boswell. In lieu of flowers, donations in Billie Jo’s memory may be sent to Laurel Trinity Church, P.O. Box 185, Jennerstown, Pa. 15547.
