Betty's "Take" on Aging

I was so impressed with Betty's (and Virgil's) commitment to international service projects, well into their senior years, to help others in distant lands. I mentioned this to Betty one night, while chatting during the intermission of one of the many high school musicals produced by her daughter, Beth (which Betty and Virgil always attended, with pride!). She agreed that she enjoyed those travels and projects, and was glad she did them in her sixties, because, speaking from the experience of being two decades older she assured me, with a rueful smile, "the eighties aren't like the sixties." I so admired this gentle, but tough and strong woman. Rest in peace, Betty: Your spirit an example will live on in me, hopefully into my eighties!
