SHAFFER – Melda R. (Durst), 89, formerly of Ohio and Jenner Township, died April 18, 2015 at Meadow View Nursing Center, Berlin. Born May 23, 1925, in Somerset County, daughter of Abe and Nellie (Bowden) Durst. Preceded in death by parents; former husbands, Stephen Budzina, Andrew Shaffer and Kenneth Wells; grandson, Anthony Budzina; sisters, Thelma Rader and Catherine Warnick; brother, Clarence Durst; nieces, Shirley Schrock and Vicki Durst; and nephews, David Eash, William Durst and Thomas Sarver. Loving mother of Stephan R. Budzina, married to Melody Moran, Chesapeake, Va., and Ava L. Shaffer, Boswell. Devoted grandmother of Stacie Denson; Melissa, married to John Russell; Megan, married to Keith Jessey; and Stephanie, married to Chetraru Maxim, and great-grandmother of Hunter, Colten, Kaleb and Grace. Also survived by sister, Wilma, married to John Durst, Frostburg, Md.; brother, Robert, married to Katie Spory, Johnstown; nieces, Brenda Shuman, Sally Montgomery, Lisa Ruffing, Stacey Tressler, Frances Grozholz, Judy Kethart and Tammy Coughenour; and nephews, Dwight Warnick, Robert Durst Jr. and Allen, Rick, Dale, Dan and Keith Sarver. Retired employee of Excello Corp., Fostoria, Ohio. A 1943 graduate of Conemaugh Township Area High School, Davidsville. Viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hoffman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 409 Main St., Boswell, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, the Rev. Dr. Joseph M. Beer, officiating. Interment, Beam Cemetery, near Gray. The family wishes to thank the staff of Meadow View Nursing Center for the excellent care given to Melda.
