Life Story for Richard O. Miller

Richard O.  Miller
MILLER – Richard O., 94, Laurel View Village, Davidsville, formerly of Jenner Township, Somerset County, died Jan. 5, 2015, at Memorial Medical Center. Born Oct. 20, 1920, in Jenner Township, son of Howard P. and Sarah J. (Baer) Miller. Preceded in death by parents; wife of 55 years, the former Hilda E. Krause, on Nov. 11, 1997; an infan daughter; and brothers, Omar, Clyde, Charles and Alton. Survived by son, Daniel L. married to Carolyn Miller, Alum Bank; daughter, Susan K., married to Larry Pearce, Jenner Township; grandchildren, Tate Miller, and wife, Renee, Altoona; Wendy (Miller), and husband, Mark Cable, Tire Hill; Annie Pearce, Radford, Va.; and Matthew Pearce, Charlotte, N.C.; and great-grandchildren, Alyssa (Cable), and husband, Jared Green; and Abigail and Andrea Cable. A 1940 graduate of the former Boswell High School, retired cement contractor and owner of the former Miller Fire Equipment and Service. Member of Jennerstown United Methodist Church and life member of Boswell Volunteer Fire Department, where he was a former chaplain, president and member of the fire police. Longtime member of St. James Cemetery Association. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, having served as a B17 Bomber Gunner during the Normandy and European campaigns. Recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross. Viewing will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 409 Main St., Boswell. Viewing also will be held from 9 a.m. until time of service at 10 a.m. Friday at Jennerstown United Methodist Church, Pastor Chuck F. Hildbold Jr., officiating.
