William H.  Myers
Myers, William H. “Bill”, 90, Sipesville, died December 9, 2014, at Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville, Md. Born April 7, 1924, in Gormania, Md, he was one of six children of the late Roy and Flo (Clayton) Myers. He was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Lois E. (Warren) Myers on September 27, 2008, his parents and all his siblings. Survived by his nine children: Warren, married to the former Denise Custer, Morgantown, WV; Ervin, married to the former Linda Howard, Somerset; William, Jr., married to the former Lois Glessner, Berryville, Va.; Theodore Ralph “T.R.” , married to the former Donna Chorgan, Delaware, Ohio; David, married to the former Kathy Henderson, Athens, Tenn.; Pamela, married to Emerson Work, Frederick, Md.; Bradley, married to the former Jeanne Croner, Lancaster, Pa.; Ramona married to Karl Sherbine, Somerset; and Evelyn, married to Stevan Smith, Ocala, Fla.; 23 grandchildren: Justin, Jeremy, Michael, Adam, Ervin Jr, Christopher, Kevin, Kyle, Keith, Rebecca, Brianna, Brian, Amanda, Zachary, Alix, Erica, Tyler, Carley, Lydia, Patrick, Elliot, Ian and Sara; 20 great-grandchildren: Logan, Ashley, Hunter, Harper, Benjamin, Faith, Landri, McKennzie, Kennedy, Aaron, Azlyn, Daniel, Kylee, David, Mallory, Cash, Maverick, Ethan, Lilly, Luke, and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Holsopple, Somerset and Martha Myers, Greensburg, A 1942 graduate of the former Boswell High School, he was one of only two Boswell High School wrestlers to have won four consecutive District 5 wrestling titles. He enlisted in the Army Air Force and was assigned to the 449th Bomb Squadron. He received honorable discharge as Staff Sargent, receiving the Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, American Campaign Medal, African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Stars and World War II Victory Medal. A member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, Edie. He worked in steel construction and welding and was a member of the Ironworkers Union. He was a Mason and a member of the VFW. Along with his wife, he dedicated 25 years to the Children’s Aid Society of Somerset County helping with the foster child program. His many hobbies included trout fishing – he never met a fish he didn’t want to catch - and baking bread and rolls for his children and their families and growing fruits and making jam for his friends and family. He had a relationship with Jesus Christ and because of this he has been ushered into his heavenly home by God Himself where he will spend eternity singing and dancing with the angels. Bill, Dad, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa and friend: you are greatly loved and you will be greatly missed by your loving family and friends. A memorial service for family and friends will be held 1pm Sunday, December 14th at the First Christian Church, 139 E. Main St., Somerset. In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift in memory of Bill may be sent to the St. John’s United Methodist Church, 681 Edie Road, Somerset, PA 15501.
