SMITH – Edwin W., 65, Friedens, died July 2,2014, at UPMC Montefiore, Pittsburgh. Born Sept. 23, 1948, in Somerset, son of the late Aldwin and Ruth (Ohler) Smith. Survived by wife of 45 years, Connee L. (Fulton); daughter, Tiffany Smith, Apopka, Fla., and her daughter, Sophia Miller, whom Ed called his “Little Dutch Girl”; son, Jeremy, married to Kim (Francis), Sanford, Fla.; sister, Donna, married to John Neuhoff, Boswell; brother, Ernie, married to Belle (Hammer), Boswell; nieces, Gretchen (Neuhoff), married to Robert Harriman, Boswell, and their children, Brittany and Jordan; niece, Shannon (Smith), married to Eduardo Alfaro, Latrobe, and their children, Austin and Asher; and mother-in-law, Jean Fulton, Jerome. A 1966 graduate of J.B. High School, Boswell. A U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Ed was a mine engineer for Solar Fuel Coal Co. for 41 years and a land developer for the past two years with AK Steel Corp. Member of Friedens Lutheran Church and was an inductee to the Somerset County Baseball Hall of Fame. He was a long-time season ticket holder of the Johnstown Chiefs and Tomahawks and an avid fan of Pittsburgh sports teams. Ed also enjoyed traveling to Florida to visit his children and granddaughter and spending time every Sunday at Cameron’s Cottage in Bedford County. No viewing or service will be held.
