SMITH - Robert Wayne, 96, Boswell, passed on August 9, 2021 at Meadow View Nursing Center (not COVID related). Born Nov. 2, 1924 in Jenner Township. Son of Nevin and Louise (Smith) Smith. Preceded in death by parents, wife of 54 years Esther Mae Gindlesperger and brothers and sisters in law Carl and Isabelle Smith and George and Kay Smith. Survived by children Gary of Baltimore, Ohio, Debra married to Ron Menser of Somerset and Tim of Acworth, GA.; grandchildren Christopher Menser of Baltimore, MD and Matthew Menser married to Kaitlyn of Stevens City, VA and great-grandchild Jonah Menser son of Matthew and Kaitlyn. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. After working 33 years at Bethlehem Steel, Bob enjoyed 37 years of retirement. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was a former member of Camp Lafayette Hunting Camp and a frequent guest of Sycamore Hunting Camp. He also was a longtime owner of a fishing boat and enjoyed fishing streams and ponds. He had many fishing friends. He was also a bowler, belonging to the Laurel Trinity Church League, serving as team captain and the Somerset County Senior Citizen League. A Member of Laurel Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Jennerstown having served as treasurer and member of church council. Also a member of Boswell Post #461 American Legion, Roof Garden Basha of the CBI Veteran’s Association, Jenner Community Sportsman’s Club and Jenner Rod and Gun Club. He volunteered for the Helping Hands Food Pantry and delivered for Meals on Wheels for many years. Army veteran of World War II, China Burma, India (CBI) Theater, serving as a medic. Viewing from 2-4 and 6-8PM Thursday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 409 Main Street, Boswell. Viewing also from 10AM until the time of service 11AM Friday at Laurel Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Doug Knupp, officiating. Interment Jenner Crossroads Cemetery with graveside military rites accorded by the Somerset County Honor Guard.
