DEDIK – Robert J., Sr., 87, of Boswell, passed away February 10, 2024 at Siemon’s Heritage Personal Care Center, Somerset. Born June 2, 1936 in Boswell, the son of Yuraj George H. and Elizabeth A. (Miller) Dedik. Preceded in death by parents; wife of 44 years, Barbara A. (Jarosyk) Dedik; infant sisters, Elizabeth and Mary; sisters, Teresa Blucas, Agnes Dedik, Verna Sendek and Virginia Ference and brothers, Steve, George and Walter Dedik. Survived by children, Debbie married to Rodney Ashbrook of Hooversville, Robert, Jr. of Jennerstown, Sandy married to Keith Cervenak of Latrobe, Judy married to Greg Scrimager of Jenners and Jim married to Vicki (Francett) of Eagle River, AK; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; sister-in-law, Gloria Dedik of Boswell; brother-in-law, Andy “Diddles” Jarosyk of Ralphton and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob was a 1954 graduate of JBJ Joint High School, Boswell. He enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1958. He was a mail carrier for 30 years with the Somerset Post Office. During his retirement, he worked part time for Hoffman Funeral Homes. Member of All Saints Catholic Parish where he was an usher and helped with the maintenance and upkeep of the church. He was also a member of NARFE. Bob enjoyed carpentry work, being out in nature walking, bird watching, gardening, hunting and fishing. He also liked studying history and was an avid reader of Henry David Thoreau. He fulfilled his lifelong dream of visiting Walden Pond in Concord Massachusetts. He also enjoyed trips to Alaska to visit his son, Jim. “I took a walk in the woods and came out taller than the trees.” Viewing from 2-4 & 6-8PM Wednesday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 409 Main Street, Boswell where a Vigil for the Deceased will be held 2PM Wednesday.
