Obituary for Rev. William E. Deist

DEIST - The Reverend William E. “Pastor Bill”, 68, of Somerset, died June 23, 2022. Pastor Bill was born December 11, 1953, in Somerset County, PA. He was the fifth in a family of nine children. Raised along with his siblings by loving mother, Alta Fern (Lohr) Deist, who predeceased him in 2001. Pastor Bill graduated from North Star High School in 1971. He received an Associate’s Degree in Specialized Business from Cambria-Rowe Business College in 1973 and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Penn State University in 1976. He then continued his studies at the Lutheran Theological Seminary, Gettysburg, PA. He was a Chaplain in the State Park System of Pennsylvania at Shawnee Campground and Lynn Run. While attending seminary he spent a year at the Lutheran House of Studies, a member of the Washington Theological Consortium, Washington, D.C. Pastor Bill graduated in 1985 from the Lutheran Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity Degree and was ordained to ministry at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, Boswell, October 6, 1985. Pastor Bill went on to serve churches in Pittsburgh, Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania. His hobbies included photography, bowling, Christian concerts and bicycling. He is survived by his siblings, David (Sally), Sandra (Terry) Weaver, Tom (Cheryl), Judy Pelesky, Paul and Dennis (Claire); sisters-in-law, Shirley and Helen Deist; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Pastor Bill was predeceased by brothers, James and John and nephew Adam Deist. A private family memorial service was held. Pastor Michael Dunlap, close family friend served the family. Committal was held at Jenner Crossroads Cemetery. Arrangements by Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Boswell.
