Obituary for Rebecca J. "Becky" Ickes (Kaltenbaugh)

ICKES - Rebecca J. “Becky” (Kaltenbaugh), 77, Davidsville, formerly of Johnstown, went to be with the Lord January 5, 2021 at Laurel View Village. Born February 7, 1943 in Johnstown. Daughter of the late James and Jane (Strayer) Kaltenbaugh. Survived by husband of 44 years Carl W. Ickes, who was by her side when she passed; daughters Wendy Pierce, Windber and Missy Giza, Delaware, OH; stepsons Edward Ickes, Richmond, VA and Douglas Ickes, Alexandria, VA; grandchildren Josh Gates, Bobbi Pierce and Tala Pierce; brother David Kaltenbaugh, Altoona and sister Shelly Kaltenbaugh, Monroeville. A 1961 graduate of Johnstown High School where she played in the band. A 1965 graduate of Juniata College majoring in Elementary Education. Was an Elementary School teacher for Conemaugh Township Area Schools for 33 years, retiring in 2001. Member of Trinity Presbyterian Church of America, Johnstown. Past President of Johnstown Garden Club. Also a member of Herb Society of America and American Horticultural Society. A life member of the PA state Garden Club and National Garden Club. She was a Penn State Master Gardner, and an accredited Flower Show Judge. Becky was also an avid reader and herbalist and gave many lectures on herbs. Due to Covid, a private viewing and service will be held at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Davidsville with Rev. Dr. David Karlberg presiding.
