Obituary for Norman Wayne Fritz

FRITZ - Norman Wayne, 94, of Stoystown went to be with the Lord on June 1, 2023 at home surrounded by his family. Born December 26, 1928, in Jenner Twp. The son of Jay and Alice (Zimmerman) Fritz. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Alice Fritz; brothers, Harry, Jay, Walter, Richard and Waldo Fritz; and granddaughter Cassandra Ruth Nemchik. Norman is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Naomi R. (Meredith) Fritz; children, Debra (Randy) Zimmerman, Marsha (Joseph) Nemchik, and Marc Fritz; grandchildren, Nina Zimmerman, Joseph Nemchik Jr., and Dustin Nemchik. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. He graduated from Somerset High School in 1947 and attended Penn State University. However, he was unable to finish college due to a fall out of a tree, which caused his right knee to become fused and numerous other injuries. Norman married Naomi on Sept. 28, 1957 at the Moxham Methodist Church, Johnstown and they honeymooned at Niagara Falls. He worked as a clerk in the Somerset County assessment office, Recorder of Deeds for the courthouse, and as a Tax Collector for Jenner Twp. In addition, he was appointed by the court to the County Board of Elections. Norman shared his love of music at the age of fifteen while he served as the pianist for Mt. Tabor United Church of Christ. Later, Norman joined the Zion-Hoffman Lutheran Church, Friedens, where he served as the church pianist and organist for many years. He also taught piano lessons. He loved to read the newspaper, spend time with his family, listen to classical music, spend time at the family cabin, and loved to hear Nina and Dustin play the piano. Norman also enjoyed traveling out west with his family, taking them for Chinese food, and spending time with Stormy (family dog) and Tiger (family cat). Family will receive friends from 4-7 PM Tuesday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Boswell. Viewing also from 1 until time of service 2PM Wednesday the Zion-Hoffman Lutheran Church with service to be conducted with Rev. Cecil Lohr, officiating. Interment will follow at Zion-Hoffman Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Garden of Memories Cemetery c/o Zion Hoffman Lutheran Church: 577 Hoffman Church Rd.
