Obituary for Merle R. "Nook" DeMarco

DeMARCO – Merle R. “Nook”, 80, Jennerstown, passed away January 14, 2022 at UPMC Somerset Hospital. Born April 2, 1941 in Jenner Twp., Somerset Co. Son of Joseph and Goldie M. (Daniels) DeMarco. Preceded in death by parents; infant sister, Erma Jean and brother, Robert J. DeMarco. Survived by wife of 62 years, Edith L. (Sowerbrower) DeMarco; children, Jeffrey R. married to Valerie (DeBlander), Pittsburgh, Scott A. married to Ginger (Shaffer), Somerset and Kelly L. Gross and companion Benjamin Walter, Somerset; grandchildren, Joe DeMarco and wife Missy, Laura DeMarco, Alex Gross, Ryan DeMarco and Alison Gross and companion Max; special great-granddaughter Daisy Leasock and numerous nieces and nephews. Merle was a 1959 graduate of JBJ Joint High School, Boswell and a U.S. Air Force veteran. Former steelworker, having retired from Latrobe Steel in 2006. Former member of Jennerstown Volunteer Fire Department and member of Laurel Trinity Lutheran Church, Jennerstown. He enjoyed spending his mornings with his friends at the Coal Miner’s Café. Merle was an avid woodworker and history and aviation enthusiast. He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. A private viewing and service will be held at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Boswell with military honors by Somerset County Honor Guard. Interment St. James Cemetery.
