Obituary for Mearl D. Horner

HORNER – Mearl D., 78, Davidsville, went to be with the Lord April 8, 2020 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. Born April 20, 1941 in Johnstown. Son of Theodore and Margaret (Page) Horner. Preceded in death by parents; son Mearl D. Horner, Jr.; brothers Theodore, Jr. and Neil Horner and sister Faith Housel. Survived by wife of 57 years Carole J. (Eppley) Horner; son Douglas C. married to Dawn (Varmecky) Horner, Wasilla, AK; daughter Sheri L. married to Anthony Zambanini, Jerome; grandchildren Christopher Horner and special friend Coral Knight, Robert Horner and fiancé Chelle Zeglin, Alexandra (Zambanini) and husband Alec Kristobak, Kyle married to Emily (Maurer) Zambanini, Daniel Zambanini and special friend Erin Vrana and Maggie Zambanini and special friend Gabe Slezak; great grandchildren Sophia and Mera Zambanini and Cooper Kristobak; brother Robert Horner, Johnstown; brothers-in-law Robert and wife Cynthia (Lippincott) Eppley, Ambler, PA and Brian Eppley, Davidsville; sister-in-law Patricia Horner, Johnstown and numerous nieces and nephews. Mearl was a 1959 graduate of Franklin High School and a U.S. Army Veteran. Retired employee of Bethlehem Steel, Corp. and J.W.F.I., both of Johnstown. Member of Maple Spring Church of the Brethren, near Jerome, where he was a Deacon and served on the Cemetery Association and Men’s Fellowship. Also a member of Jerome Sportsmen, Windber Country Club and G.E. Retiree Golf League. Mearl was an avid hunter and enjoyed spending time at hunting camp in Clearfield with his family and close friends Bill Watkins, Blaine Leverknight, Tom Watkins, Paul Hershberger and John Unger. He always looked forward to trips to Alaska to hunt caribou with his son Doug north of the Arctic Circle. He also enjoyed golfing, gardening, watching his grandchildren’s sporting events and spending time with his great-grandchildren. Mearl was a very loving and devoted husband and caregiver to his wife Carole. When your heart is heavy thinking of Mearl, please read 1Thes. 4:13-18. Due to the current public health restrictions, a celebration of Mearl’s life will be held at a later date with inurnment at Maple Spring Cemetery.
