PERO – Mary (Strank), 89, Davidsville, died June 24, 2022 at Laurel View Village. Born February 7, 1933 in the Franklin Borough section of Johnstown. Daughter of Vasil and Martha (Grofik) Strank. Preceded in death by parents; husband of 61 years, Frank Pero and she was the last surviving member of her siblings, John, Peter, and Sgt. Michael Strank. Sgt. Strank was one of the flag raisers during the Battle of Iwo Jima. Mary was so proud of her brother and participated in any service honoring him. She was always appreciative of local efforts to commemorate his service. Survived by children, Frank, married to Tairys (Delgado), Tampa, Fla.; Annette, married to Ken Fridey, Raleigh, NC; Kathleen, married to Douglas Price, Fairfax, VA.; and Thomas, married to Marie (Collevecchio), Harleysville; grandchildren, Nicholas Valentine and wife Sara (Sims); Kelly (Fridey) and husband Evan Sides; Trent Fridey; and Adriana, Thomas and Angela Pero; great-granddaughters, Madeline and Jordyn Sides and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was an active member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Benscreek. She was a former employee of Penelec and a Girl Scout Leader and Election Poll Worker. She enjoyed reading, sewing and crocheting and baking breads, pies, cakes and cookies but was best known for her gobs. Viewing from 2-4 & 6-8PM Monday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 109 Church Road, Davidsville where a Vigil for the Deceased will be held Monday. Funeral Mass at 11AM Tuesday at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Benscreek with Rev. Fr. Angelo Patti, Celebrant. Committal Grandview Cemetery.
