BERKEY - Mary Lou (Thomas), 92, formerly of Jennerstown, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 23, 2021 at Windber Woods. Born August 1, 1928 in Boswell. She was the daughter of Walter and Rhea (Cable) Thomas. Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Wayne Berkey on April 3, 1993; brothers, Lee and Jim and special friend, Vernon Knavel. Survived by loving family, daughters, Linda Lamborn of Bradford and Bonnie married to Arthur Fawcett of New Bern, NC; sons, William, of Jennerstown and Timothy married to Cindy (Lape) of Boswell; grandchildren, Kelly (Caldwell) married to Stacy Park of Gifford, Brett Fawcett married to Meaghan (Gavin) of Eagleville and Aaron Berkey and his special friend Becky McNeel of Somerset and brother Walter and wife JoAnn. Mary Lou enjoyed visits from great grandchildren, Grant, Reid and Jack Fawcett. She graduated from Boswell High School and lived in Jennerstown for 70 years. Mary Lou enjoyed being a secretary for Boswell Lumber Company and Laurel Trinity Lutheran Church, Jennerstown, where she was also a member for most of her life. She enjoyed serving on church council, helping with church activities and quilting with the Knotty Ladies. She was a member of the Jennerstown Fireman’s Ladies Auxiliary and the Election Board of Jennerstown. Mary Lou and her son, Bill delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. She enjoyed square dancing, gardening, reading, sewing, homemaking and was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan. She was also a wonderful cook and enjoyed sharing her treats, especially pies, with her family and friends.
