Obituary for Marlin S. Yoder

YODER – Marlin S., 87, Hollsopple, peacefully entered into his eternal rest surrounded by his family on March 22, 2024 at his home. Born September 30, 1936 at his home. Son of Ammon S. and Elda V. (Kaufman) Yoder. Preceded in death by parents and siblings, Noah Yoder, Dorthy Shetler, Twila Thomas, Paul Yoder and Erma Kauffman. Survived by wife of 63 years, Doris M. (Leiner) Yoder; children, Charles Yoder and wife Susan of Hollsopple, Elizabeth “Beth” Hawley of Hollsopple, Stephen Yoder of Erie, Brian Yoder and wife Linda of Hollsopple and Sandra “Sandy” Yoder and friend Richard Hanks of Hollsopple; 10 grandchildren, Jonathan Yoder and wife Nicole, Melissa Yoder and fiancé Mike Blaker, Timothy and Matthew Hawley, Heather, Lisa and Bradley Yoder, Rebecca Doverspike and husband James, Ryan Yoder and wife Annie and Daniel Yoder and fiancé Mckenzie Mahler; 3 great-grandchildren, Mason, Bennet and Ellie Yoder; siblings, Bernice Alwine, Emma Mae Alwine and Merle Yoder and wife Janet and numerous nieces and nephews. Marlin was 1954 graduate of Conemaugh Township High School. He was a lifelong farmer and worked full time as an electrician where he was known as “Marty”. He retired after 55 years of service from IBEW Local 5. He was a lifelong member of Blough Mennonite Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday School Teacher. He was known as a helper of people, liked to read his Bible and Daily Bread Devotional every day, listened to gospel music and planted a garden every year. Among his pets was his favorite, a dog named Sport, who often rode with him in his farm truck on errands. Marlin was known to say, “I was born in this farm house, lived my whole life in it and my final wish is to die in it.” He will be greatly missed by his family; may he rest in peace. The family would like to thank the staff of Heartland Hospice for the care given to Marlin. Viewing from 2-4 & 6-8PM Wednesday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 109 Church Road, Davidsville. Viewing also from 10AM until time of service 11AM Thursday at Blough Mennonite Church with Pastor Eric Lasure and Pastor Wes Yoder presiding. Interment Blough Mennonite Cemetery.
