SMITH - Marie Theresa, 74, Boswell, died December 30, 2022 at Rest Assured Personal Care Home, Meyersdale. Born May 19, 1948 in Highspire, PA. Daughter of the late Paul and Emma (Tasin) Rizzo. Survived by husband James E. Smith, Boswell and son Garry Iaconelli, Hermosa Beach, CA. Marie graduated from South Philadelphia High School in 1965. She worked for Bell Telephone after graduation until getting a secretarial position on the Philadelphia Naval Base. In 1980 her and James were married. She traveled with him to San Diego CA where she worked as the secretary to the new construction officer at National City Naval Ship Yard where she was involved with the building of the USNS Comfort and the USNS Mercy both naval hospital ships. After Jim retired from the navy, they returned to PA in 1992 and lived in Gray. While Jim worked as a Park Ranger, Marie was a medical transcriptionist at the Sate Hospital in Somerset. In 1996 they returned to San Diego where Jim worked as a Contracting Officer at Space and Naval Warfare R&D lab procuring weapons for the navy and Marie served as the Executive Officers secretary at that same organization. She kept the Executive officer’s calendar and organized banquets and meetings with foreign dignitaries and high-ranking military and other government officials. In 2008 they both retired and bought a farm near Camp Sequanota. Marie loved to garden in her free time and grow wild flowers. She was also an excellent cook.
