Obituary for Leroy J. "Red" Koenig

KOENIG – Leroy J. “Red”, 95, Hollsopple, passed away unexpectedly April 12, 2024 at home. Born August 5, 1928 in Johnstown. Son of Karl W. and Bertha M. (Niessner) Koenig. Preceded in death by parents; wife of 64 years, Helen F. (Kohler) Koenig on August 13, 2017 and brothers, Karl A., John E., Ronald J. and Lawrence W. Koenig. Survived by sons, Daniel R. married to Evamarie (Teno), Boonsboro, MD and Donald J. married to Patricia M. (Huzsek), Davidsville; grandchildren, Kevin and wife Brianne, Hancock, MD; Tracy married to Mike Blair, Boonsboro, MD; Carey married to Robert Custer, Harrogate, UK and Jordon, Hollidaysburg; great-grandchildren, Shelby, Gavin, Larissa, Chloa, Cain, Alistair and Ezra; sister, Kathleen Koenig, Johnstown; brother-in-law, Herbert Kohler, Maugansville, MD; sisters-in-law, Carrie Koenig, Poughkeepsie, NY, Barbara Koenig, Export and Marianne Kohler, Johnstown and numerous nieces and nephews. Red was a 1946 graduate of former Catholic High School, Johnstown and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was employed as a car salesman at various local car dealerships for over 60 years. Member of St. Anne Catholic Church, Davidsville where he sang in the choir for many years. Also a member of Jerome Sportsmen and Boswell American Legion. Red enjoyed hunting and was an avid outdoorsman. He was always willing to lend a hand to family and friends. A visitation will be held from 2-4 & 6-8PM Wednesday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 109 Church Road, Davidsville where a Vigil for the Deceased will be held 2PM Wednesday. Funeral Mass 11AM Thursday at St. Anne Church, Davidsville with Rev. Fr. Karl Kolodziejski, Celebrant. Committal St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Geistown with military honors.
