Obituary for Leo B. Baranik

BARANIK – Leo B., 95, Jerome, died February 4, 2023 at Conemaugh Memorial Hospital. Born April 8, 1927 in Windber. Son of Andrew and Mary (Pochvatila) Baranik. Preceded in death by parents; wife of 57 years Helen E. (Stetz) Baranik on January 18, 2010; brothers, Andrew, John, Albert and Ted; sisters, Kay, Margaret and Mildred and pet dog Loco. Survived by children, Susan Baranik, Jerome; Karen, married to Greg Novak, Boswell; Stephen, married to Carol (Shank), Stewartstown, PA and Lisa Baranik, Reno, NV; grandchildren, Jamie, Jessica, Adam, Stephanie, Christopher and Kelly; great-grandchildren, Leo, Anthony, Liam, Elsie, Andrew, Matthew and one on the way and sister-in-law, Mary Alice Baranik, Frederick, MD. Leo also loved his children’s dogs, Ollie and Izzy. He was a graduate of Windber High School and a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII having served as a Signalman. He was a retired employee of Conemaugh & Blacklick Railroad, a division of Bethlehem Steel, where he served for 30 years. He also graduated from Cambria Rowe Business College with a degree in Cosmetology. He then operated a beauty shop from his home in Jerome for many years. Member of St. Anne Catholic Church, Davidsville, and Jerome and Windber American Legions. He enjoyed duck pin bowling, gardening, solving word search puzzles, building puzzles and was an avid fan of Pittsburgh sports. Leo and Helen enjoyed traveling the country and visiting their family. Family was most important to Leo and he loved taking care of them. A special thank you to the staff of Conemaugh Hospital and Conemaugh Home Health for the care given to Leo. Viewing from 2-4 & 6-8PM Thursday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 109 Church Road, Davidsville. Funeral Mass 11AM Friday at St. Anne Catholic Church, Davidsville with Rev. Fr. Karl Kolodziejski, Celebrant. Committal Holy Cross Cemetery, Jerome with military honors by Somerset County Honor Guard.
