Obituary for June Ilene Lazier

LAZIER – June Ilene, 74, Boswell, died May 24, 2023 at her home where she was born on April 19, 1949 and lived her entire life. It was her wish that she would also die there. She was the daughter of George and Lenore (Myers) Lazier. Preceded in death by her parents and sister Georgia Ann Mahl. Survived by her sisters, Shirley Kamp, Donna (Donald) York, special sister Deborah and special brother-in-law Thomas St. Clair with whom June resided for 37 years, Lori (Douglas) Baird, and nonbiological sister, Linda (Shesko) Mauzy. She is also survived by nephews Robert Mahl and Matthew York, nieces Stacy Boyle, Leslie Medeiros, Theresa Peters, Cheryl Reichley, Ciminy St. Clair, Aimee St. Clair, Kelcy Pelesky, Carly Baird, Tawny Scherer, brother-in-law Bob Mahl, and numerous cousins and great nieces, and nephews. June was born with Spina Bifida and was only expected to live a few years. However, she overcame all of her obstacles even though she was confined to a wheelchair most of her life and was able to do many things most people just dream of. She traveled everywhere with her family and loved a day at the casinos. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed watching Parker and Landon Scherer play soccer and baseball, cheering on Peyton Scott at local, state, and national swimming events, watching Andrew and Natalie Pelesky get off the bus after school, and then spend an evening meal with them. June was a huge Pittsburgh sports and NASCAR fan and watched most of them on TV. She was also able to attend many Johnstown Chiefs/Tomahawks hockey games. She was an avid CB radio enthusiast and went by the handle, Strawberry. Several of June’s biggest accomplishments were to get a handicapped driver’s license and participate in the Wheelchair Olympics in New York City in 1966. She was an honorary classmate of Jenner-Boswell High School class of 1967 and will be sadly missed by her childhood friends, Gloria (Zanoni) Boose and Sandy (Cole) Mattie. June accepted Christ as her Savior at a young age. The family appreciates the excellent care from UPMC home health workers. A public Celebration of Life will be held from 2-4 & 6-8PM Thursday, June 22 at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 409 Main Street, Boswell. A private family service will be held the following day with Pastor Michael A. Dunlap officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in June’s name to NSYO, 320 Allegheny St., Boswell, PA 15531. To express condolences, order flowers or plant a memorial tree, visit HoffmanFuneralHomes.com.
