SOPICH – Joseph M., 81, Boswell, went to be with the Lord March 28, 2023 at Meadow View Nursing Center, Berlin. Born November 1, 1941 in Somerset, the son of Joseph F. and Elizabeth (Bocsy) Sopich. Preceded in death by parents and sister, Doris O’Connor. Survived by wife of 57 years, Penelope “Penny” E. (Jacobs) Sopich; son, Michael and wife Barbara; daughter, Danielle Sopich and partner Michael Pyle; grandchildren, Justin Fogle and Jacob Pyle; brother, David Sopich; sister, Nancy Sopich; brothers-in-law Dwight “Dites” “Jake” Jacobs and wife Nancy and Edmund Jacobs and partner Elizabeth Campbell and numerous nieces and nephews. Joe was a 1960 graduate of JBJ Joint High School, Boswell. He was a life member of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, Boswell where he served on the church council and was Sunday School Superintendent. He was a life member of Boswell Volunteer Fire Department having held many positions such as President, Fire Chief, Assistant Chief and Board of Directors. Joe was a member of Somerset/Cambria Fire Police Association where he served as President and Recording Secretary. He was a life member of Jenner Rod & Gun Club and was involved with the Boy Scouts of America having served as Scout Master and received the Award of Merit and Wood Badge. Joe retired as a Corrections Officer for the Somerset County Jail and as a Security Officer for Twin Lakes Center in Somerset. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, watching NASCAR and the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates and going to the beach at Nags Head, NC. Joe will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Viewing from 2-4 & 6-8PM Monday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 409 Main Street, Boswell where a service will be held 11AM Tuesday with Vicar Allen Stump presiding.
