Obituary for John G. Haines Jr.

HAINES - John G., Jr., 75, of Hollsopple, passed away peacefully at his home on September 2, 2022, after a courageous battle with glioblastoma brain cancer. He was born December 1, 1946, in Johnstown, the son of the late John, Sr. and Pearl (Kaltenbaugh) Haines of Tire Hill. He is survived by his devoted wife, Natalie (Pellatiro), his two loving daughters, Stephanie, married to Scott Shirley, and Stacia, married to Gregg Engler, and his cherished grandchildren Mackenzie and Tanner. He is also survived by his three siblings, Patty (Albert “Cook”), Frank (Debbie), and Cindy, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. John was a 1964 graduate of Conemaugh Township High School and a 1968 graduate of Lycoming College. For 34 years, he taught history at Shade High School and coached football, basketball, and track at various times throughout his career. He was also a PIAA basketball and softball official for almost 30 years with his long-time friend Joe Renzi. He was a member of St. David’s Lutheran Church, Davidsville. John was an avid outdoorsman who traveled throughout the country hunting and fishing with coaching buddy George Pasierb. During their retirement years, John and Natalie cruised the globe, with favorite stops in Turkey, Greece, and Estonia. Annual family beach trips, and excursions to Alaska and Montana were also much-loved destinations. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Conemaugh Township (CT) 12th Man Club, through the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies, 216 Franklin Street, Suite 400, Johnstown, PA 15901. This organization provides scholarship opportunities and financial support to the CT football program. Viewing from 2-8 PM Tuesday, September 6th, at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 109 Church Road, Davidsville. Funeral service 10AM Wednesday, September 7th, at St. David’s Lutheran Church, 401 N. Main Street, Davidsville, with Pastors Faron Johnson and Pete Kaltenbaugh presiding.
