Obituary for George M. Kogut

KOGUT - George M., 97, Jerome, died January 1, 2023 at Windber Hospice. Born on March 16, 1925. Son of Kazmierz and Anelia (Marhefka) Kogut. Preceded in death by parents; wife, Mary Lou (Weimann) Kogut; brothers, Joseph, John, Michael and Stanley Kogut; sisters, Julie Kogut, Mary Rycyk, Anna Budzina and Sophie Kososki and son-in-law Thomas L. Klein. Survived by children, Marie (Mary) Klein, Jerome and George Kogut Jr. married to Kathy, Easton, PA; grandchildren, Thomas Klein Jr. married to Kristine, Jerome, Jeffrey Klein married to Tara, Johnstown, Kacey Klein and fiancé Brodi Snyder, Johnstown and Jack Kogut, Easton. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who he enjoyed many visits. His death ends the lineage of his brothers and sisters. Graduate of Conemaugh Township High School and Slippery Rock University. Teacher of 41 years at Conemaugh Township School District having taught biology and then later started the Physical Education program at the elementary school. Coached football, basketball and golf and collected tickets for tournaments. Head lifeguard during summer vacations at Bethco Pines. Secretary of Polish Falcons Nest #556 for 50 years. Veteran of WWII Army Infantry. He wore his WWII hat proudly. Also was Jerome’s notary. George loved visiting relatives and going on vacations to Florida and Outer Banks. He was an avid hunter and Pittsburgh Pirates fan. The family would like to thank Jennifer, his beloved caregiver, Mike from Hospice, all the volunteers from Meals on Wheels who talked to him every day, the staff at the Veterans Administation, and the staff at Windber Hospice. Viewing from 2-6PM Friday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 109 Church Road, Davidsville. Funeral Mass 11AM Saturday at St. Anne Catholic Church, Davidsville, with Rev. Fr. Karl Kolodziejski, celebrant. Committal Holy Cross Cemetery, Jerome with military honors by VFW Post #155. Donations in George’s name may be made to Conemaugh Twp.
