HICKEY - George R., 92, Johnstown, died March 14, 2024 at Heritage Senior Living. Born Sept 5, 1931 in Manns Choice. Son of John and M. Veronica (Smith) Hickey. Preceded in death by parents; wife of 61 years Evelyn (LaBute); daughter, Lori Ann Byer; son in law, Michael Meyers; brothers, Vincent, Charles and his wife Joann; sisters, Grace Suhrie and her husband Robert, Euniece and Therese Karns. Survived by son, Lynn married to Christy (Yarbinitz); daughters, Sheila Meyers and Sheri Noll; son in law, Michael Byer; grandchildren Kaitlyn Hickey, Annie (Byer) married to Adam Smith, Mary (Byer) married to Zac Todaro, Nicholas and Joseph Meyers, Rebecca (Meyers) married to Nathaniel Port, Andrew and Mollinda Noll and Abby (Noll) married to Jake Spangler; 9 great grandchildren and brothers, Carl, Thomas married to Doris and Dale married to Virginia. George was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He retired from Bethlehem Steel. As a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, he was a Fourth Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Council 11308. He was an accomplished hunter and fisherman and was a member of numerous sportsman and veteran organizations. He especially liked to take a “tour” to the New Baltimore Sportsman’s Club. He also spent much of his time tending to his impressive garden, enjoying the outdoors, and most of all, cracking jokes to get a good laugh out of his family and friends. The family would like to thank the staff of Heritage Ridge Senior Living (form. Allegheny Lutheran Home) for their care and friendship to George over the last 6 years of his life. Viewing from 3-7PM Monday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 109 Church Rd., Davidsville. Funeral Mass will be held at 11AM Tuesday at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Benscreek with the Rev.
