She was 39 and holding (actually she was 93 but you never would’ve known it). Born August 27, 1929 in Jenner Twp., Somerset Co. the daughter of Earl W. and Stella M. (Daniels) Shaulis. Preceded in death by parents; husband of 50 years, Eugene S. Whipkey who died on March 6, 2002; grandson, Kenneth Eugene Whipkey; siblings V. Louise Pritts; Esther Roberts; William, Richard and Robert Shaulis and Jack Beam. Survived by children Gregory J. married to Debra (Lisbon), Boswell; Judy L. married to Robert Holt, Catawba, SC and Vickie L. married to John Watkins, King, NC; grandchildren, whom she adored Michael, Jody, Tony, Cristy, Teri, T.J. and Hannah. She was blessed with 17 great grandchildren with one on the way and one great-great grandchild; sisters-in-law, Helen Shaulis and Emma Beam; numerous nieces and nephews that she dearly loved and her dog Karter. Fern enjoyed visiting with family, friends and neighbors and was always willing to help anyone in need. She loved to eat Lay’s potato chips and “a little toast” with her butter and coffee. She enjoyed reading her Bible, listening to “old-time” hymns, watching “the good old TV shows”, planting flowers and anything that she could do outside. She couldn’t wait for Christmas time to come so she could listen to Christmas music. Former employee of Turrills Poultry Plant of Laughlintown. Member of Laurel Hill Gospel Tabernacle in Jennerstown. She also attended Somerset Church of the Brethren and El Bethel Methodist Church in Fort Lawn, SC after she moved from her home place in 1998. Viewing from 2-4 & 6-8PM Thursday and from 10AM until time of service 11AM Friday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 409 Main Street, Boswell Pastor Gary W. Anderson presiding. Interment Beam Cemetery. Because our mom/gramma loved flowers so much, we ask that, in her memory, you share a plant or bouquet with someone you love or if you choose, donations may be sent to Laurel Hill Gospel Tabernacle, c/o Gary Anderson, 412 Allegheny St., Boswell, PA 15531 or Somerset Church of the Brethren, 606 Berlin Plank Road, Somerset, PA 15501.
