ANKENY – Esther L. (Critchfield), 90, Jenner Township, passed away August 29, 2021 at In-Touch Hospice House, Somerset. Born October 18, 1930 in Sipesville. Daughter of Norman S. and Marian M. (Fritz) Critchfield. Preceded in death by parents and husband, Robert G. Ankeny. Survived by daughter, Barbara L. married to Rick Casey, Hiawassee, GA; son, Robert K. “Kim” Ankeny, Friedens; grandsons, Joseph Ankeny and wife Melissa and Joshua Ankeny and wife Chantelle and great-grandchildren Griffin Leo and Charlotte Renley Ankeny. Esther attended Boswell High School. She was a graduate of Somerset High School and Cambria Rowe Business College. She was co-owner, along with her parents, of Coal Junction Coal Company and N.S. Critchfield Trucking Company. She also served as Secretary-Treasurer and Bookkeeper for both businesses. A lifelong member of Zion-Hoffman Lutheran Church, Friedens where she was a member of the Ladies League. Also a member of Somerset Garden Club and Somerset Historical Center. She served on the Board of Directors for the Somerset Historical Center and always assisted with the Mountain Craft Days. In her spare time, she enjoyed golfing, swimming, traveling and gardening. Visitation from 10AM until time of service 11AM Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Zion-Hoffman Lutheran Church with Vicar Regina Holliday and Pastor Cecil Lohr presiding. Inurnment Somerset County Memorial Park. Flowers may be delivered to the church at 577 Hoffman Church Road, Friedens, PA between 2PM & 5PM Friday, September 17.
