JOHNSON – Ellis W. “Mooney” 94, formerly of Jenner Township, passed away peacefully June 20, 2020 at The Patriot in Somerset. Born June 23, 1925 in Somerset. Preceded in death by mother Maggie Johnson, grandparents, who helped raise Mooney, Noah, Sr. and Eliza (Snyder) Johnson; son Kevin; sisters Vera Horner, Betty Jane Horner, Gladys Reed and Mary Gilbert and brothers George, James, Eugene, Noah and Leonard Johnson. He is survived by loving wife of 69 years Irene H. (Berkheimer); son Terry Johnson; daughter Tammy (Johnson) Rice and husband Stoney; granddaughter Kelsey (Rice) Colosimo and husband Bill; grandson Brantley “Stone” Rice; great-grandchildren Will and Hallie Colosimo and half-sisters Doris Jane Peterson and Shelby Cunningham. Mooney served in Germany in the U.S. Army during WWII. He spent 26 years working at Glidden Metals in Johnstown. Member of Laurel Trinity Lutheran Church, Jennerstown, and Ferndale Sportsman’s Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed his days outdoors, especially driving his Ranger on his hunting property. He was most proud of his impressive 29 buck collection that he accrued over his lengthy hunting career. He was a passionate Pittsburgh Pirates fan and never missed his grandchildren’s baseball and softball games, rain or shine. He was often found tinkering around his garden or making his latest contraption for fishing. He could strike up a conversation with anyone he met and loved showing off his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as they grew. Viewing from 5-7PM Monday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 409 Main Street, Boswell. Face coverings are recommended. Funeral service 11AM Tuesday at Laurel Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Will Foster presiding. Interment Mt. Zion Cemetery.
