Obituary for Dorothy M. Reffner

REFFNER – Dorothy M. (Stoppe) Scrimager, 82, Jenners, passed away October 31, 2023 at her home. Born July 22, 1941 in Gray. Daughter of George, Sr. and Gladys S. (Mullen) Stoppe. Preceded in death by parents; husband, James J. “Porter” Reffner, on July 8, 2010 and brother, Walter “Bim” Stoppe. Survived by children, Gregory Scrimager married to Judith (Dedik), Debra (Scrimager) married to Dr. David Battista, Melissa (Scrimager) Sheeler and Kimberly (Reffner) Kriak; loving grandchildren, Kristi Jo married to Chad Lisbon, Gregory Scrimager and wife Meaghan, Jacob Scrimager and fiancé Megan, Chelsea Pluta, Chloe Battista, Cody Shaw and wife Michelle, Hunter Shaw, Parker Shaw and Levi Sheeler and companion Charlotte; great-grandchildren, Connor Lisbon, Maisie, August and Violet Scrimager and Harrison Shaw; brothers, George Stoppe, Jr. and wife Nancy (Evans); Robert Stoppe and wife Patricia (Stout), William “Gabo” Stoppe and wife Joann (Rose) and Richard Stoppe and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Dorothy was a 1959 graduate of J.B.J. Joint High School and a veteran of the U.S. Women’s Army Corps. She was employed by Bell Telephone and then went on to have a successful career in the restaurant industry as a cook. She worked primarily for Hoss’s Restaurants helping establish and open many of their restaurants throughout Pennsylvania and Virginia. A member of Laurel Trinity Lutheran Church, Jennerstown where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Knotty Ladies. Dorothy enjoyed watching old westerns and reading and would often share her books with others. She had a great passion for cooking and would always make sure her family was well fed. She had a great love of dachshunds. Her dog Lucy was with her until the end. The family would like to thank UPMC Somerset Hospice and Home Health for all the care they gave to Dorothy. Viewing from 2-4 & 6-8PM Friday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 409 Main Street, Boswell and from 10AM until time of service 11AM Saturday at Laurel Trinity Lutheran Church with Vicar Allen Stump presiding.
