VOLCHKO – Dennis A., 78, Somerset, died January 8, 2024, at The Patriot. Born September 25, 1945 in Cleveland, Ohio, son of Frank P. “Pat” and Mary (Tulenko) Gavel. Preceded in death by parents; companion, Winnie (Beachy) Vought; infant son, Baby Volchko; sister-in-law, Pamela (Hoffman) Gavel; brother-in-law, Bernie Gibbons and nephew, Shane Baraniak. Survived by spouse, Eileen (Gibbons) Volchko, Windber; children, Adam Volchko and wife, Genna, Cape May Court House, NJ; Brian Volchko and wife, Crystal, Pittsburgh; and Craig Volchko, Philadelphia; loving grandfather of Olivia, Abigail, and Nola; brother, William F. Gavel, Acosta; sister, Lois (Gavel) Baraniak, Jennerstown; sister-in-law Barbara (Gibbons) Doyle, Bradenton, FL and brother-in-law Darryl Gibbons and wife, Pat, Maple Hill, NC; nephew, Tim and wife, Ann (Dixon) Gavel, Latrobe and nieces, Amy Gavel and fiancé Sean Fisher, Jonesboro, GA and Kristy Baraniak, Ocean City, MD. Also survived by numerous other relatives and friends. Dennis was a 1963 graduate of JBJ Joint High School, Boswell. He retired from the Somerset State Hospital after a 30+ year career. He loved spending winters in Florida and enjoyed golfing, attending antique car shows, running in 5K/10K races, finding treasures at flea markets and spending time at the Jennerstown Speedway. He was also a proud, longtime member of AA. The family would like to thank all the special people at The Patriot, Somerset, who cared for Dennis over the last several months.
