Obituary for Charles Byron Mullen

MULLEN – Charles Byron, 70, Gray, died December 11, 2018 at Somerset Hospital. Born March 29, 1948 in Acosta. Son of Everett Calvin Mullen and Mary Jane (Omerzo) Mullen. Preceded in death by parents, brother James Mullen, sister Patty Ann Wilderman and step-mother Mae (Putman) Mullen. Survived by wife of 49 years Janet Diane (Pyle) Mullen whom he married March 12, 1969. Sons Christopher Byron Mullen, Chad Calvin Mullen married to Nicole (Coughenour) Mullen and Clinton Charles Mullen; grandchildren Jarryd Christopher Mullen, Elijah Joshua Mullen and Hannah Nicole Gross; brother David Mullen and wife Terry; sister JoAnn married to William Bunting; sister-in-law Virginia Brewer; brothers-in-law Wayne Pyle and wife Deborah, Alan Pyle and wife Brenda and Ken Pyle and wife Linda and numerous nieces and nephews. A U.S. Army Veteran of Vietnam War with a rank of SGT, E-5. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; Vietnam Campaign Medal; Army Commendation Medal and Expert Badge in Rifle. Lifelong truck driver Good Time Charlie. He and his wife were owner/operator of Charles Mullen Trucking for 20 years and retired from Performance I after 12 years of service. Lifetime member of Somerset Post 554 VFW and Somerset Post 587 VVA. Also a member of Boswell Post 461 American Legion and Faith Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Gray. He enjoyed deer hunting, spending time with family and friends, his ’57 Chevy and Sparky. Viewing from 2-8PM Friday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 409 Main Street, Boswell where a service will be held 11:30AM Saturday with Pastor Joseph W. Gray and Audrey Gray presiding. Interment Husband Cemetery, Somerset with military honors by Somerset County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, please donate to any veterans organization.
