Obituary for Charles Franklin Holsinger

HOLSINGER – Charles Franklin., 85, of Davidsville, passed away December 29, 2023 in Davidsville as a result of an auto accident. Born June 10, 1938 in Hagerstown, MD. Son of Harry Holsinger and Dora Thurmond. Preceded in death by parents and step-father, Jack Thurmond. Survived by wife of 65 years, Yvonne C. (DeFrehn) Holsinger; son, Dr. David Holsinger and wife Kim of Ebensburg; grandsons, Dr. Dan Holsinger and wife Cassandra of Cheyenne, WY, Dr. Brian Holsinger and wife Ally of Shippensburg, Scott Holsinger and girlfriend Mandi and Matt Holsinger and girlfriend Lauryn both of Ebensburg and great-granddaughter Hannah Holsinger. Charles was a 1956 graduate of Hagerstown High School in Maryland and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a printing apprentice in Washington, DC and a former employee of Miller Picking Co., Davidsville and Altoona Times Tribune. He then operated his own printing business - Holsinger Typesetting. He retired from McIllwain Bussing where he drove bus for Johnstown and Westmont Schools. He was one of the founding members of the Conemaugh Township Youth Baseball League. Also a member of former Conemaugh Township Jaycees and Franklin Street United Methodist Church, Johnstown where he sang in the choir, was a youth group leader, lay minister and mission leader. He enjoyed raising fish in his aquariums, going to the Niagara River fishing with his family, vacationing in Ocean City, MD and rooting for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers. Charles was a devoted and caring husband who especially treasured time with his family and church family. A private burial will be held at Grandview Cemetery. A celebration of life service will be held at approximately 11:45 AM following the Sunday church service on January 7th at Franklin Street Church with Pastor Terry Knipple presiding.
