Obituary for Bonnie Lou Lape

LAPE – Bonnie Lou, 75, of Friedens, being so strong to fight cancer, the Lord said it is finally time to come home, went to be with her Lord peacefully at home on December 8, 2022. Bonnie is preceded in death by her parents, Lester A. Lape and Mary Jane (Mimna) Lape, whom, for many years, Bonnie and her husband, Dale, cared for. Also preceded in death by brother, Alan D. Lape. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 55 years, Dale E. Lape; daughter, Luwana married to Bruce Williams; step-grandson, Josh Williams and wife, Kristin; step-grandson, Nathan Williams and wife, Audra and their children, Hunter, Chloe and Kate; step-grandson, Brandon Williams and wife, Samantha and their children, Gabriel, Madex, Wyatt and Nova and daughter Lucinda married to Chris Furry and their son, Seth. Born May 6, 1947 in Somerset, Bonnie grew up as a farm girl and graduated from Jenner-Boswell Jennerstown High School (JBJ) in 1965. She and Dale built their home on the family farm in 1977 and lived there presently. During their 55 years of marriage, they enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, The Holy Land, London, Alaska, the American west, beaches, Florida, New Orleans, on cruises and many other destinations. Every year they had big Fourth of July and Christmas parties with light up night for family and friends. Bonnie enjoyed shopping, craft shows and just being with her two daughters. She lived an adventurous life with her grandson, Seth, who called her Nanny/Nanner – parasailing, zip lining, roller coasters, white water rafting and going to Tennessee, Dollywood and vacationing together. One of her last joys was soaking Seth on the bumper boats. She enjoyed going to his swim meets and seeing his relay team win at states. Seth is graduating from Virginia Tech in the spring and she was very proud of him. Everyone loved Bonnie. She had an outgoing personality and contagious smile. She often got compliments on her beautiful blue eyes and her outfits and nails as she always matched from head to toe. She enjoyed going out with friends to lunches and the Mountain Playhouse. Working in their yard and her love of flowers was evident by the beauty of flowerbeds throughout their landscape. Her latest hobby of Diamond Art helped Bonnie pass the time through countless hours of recuperating from chemo and various cancer treatments. Bonnie’s entire career of 40 years was spent working at the Boswell Dental Center under Dr. James Ramsey, Dr. Dennis Blasiole and Dr. John Miller. People would often ask the dentist where the computer is and he would look at Bonnie and say “there she is”. Growing up, Bonnie attended St. John’s United Methodist Church in Edie where she played the piano, taught Sunday School and organized Bible School. In 1980 she joined the Somerset Alliance Church where she taught Sunday School and was in the choir. Bonnie loved to sing. In 2021, she and Dale joined Living Hope Church in Somerset. Bonnie loved her church family. Bonnie would like to thank the wonderful doctors that helped her during her cancer journey, especially Dr. Michelle Boisen in Pittsburgh who was a very special doctor and the “captain of her ship” and the many shipmates that came along and assisted in her care, including Dr. Cyril Nathanial. Family and friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8PM Wednesday, December 14 and from 10-11AM Thursday, December 15 at the Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 409 Main Street, Boswell.
