MAURER - B.J., Jr., 90, of Davidsville, formerly of Boswell died January 14, 2021 at Laurel View Village. Born July 6, 1930 in Johnstown. Son of Bowman J. “Slim” Maurer, Sr. and Ruth (Gaffney). Preceded in death by parents; wife of 61 years, former Betty Ann Varney, February 6, 2014; brother Jack and grandson, Jeffrey Maurer. Survived by children, Christopher, married to Diane Matse, Boswell; Susan, married to Craig Murray, Somerset; Michael, married to Ladelle Folton, Jenner Township and Matthew, married to Lisa Svonavec, Conemaugh Township; beloved grandfather to his grandchildren, Tim, Jessica, Jule, Ben, Chad, Jodi, Nolan, Lauren, Luray, Noah, Jacob, Adam, Megan, Emily, Sarah, Lucas and Caleb and 27 great grandchildren. Also survived by sister Mary Ruth “Honey” Woy and husband, Dwight, Jennerstown. A 1948 graduate of former Boswell High School. Korean War Veteran who served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1952 aboard the air craft carrier, the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. Graduated second in his class from the University of Pittsburgh with a B.S. degree in business management. Second generation Ford Dealer from 1956 to 1999. Former mayor of Boswell Borough and past treasurer of the Boswell Lions Club for 60 years. Co-chairman at the founding of the local community park. Chairman of the planning, building and staffing project of the Boswell Lions Medical Clinic. Member of All Saints Catholic Parish, Boswell Athletic and Sportsmen's Association and Wheelers and Dealers Square Dance Club. B.J. loved fishing and camping and time spent at his camp in Clinton County. Resident of Laurel View Village since 2007. Viewing from 3PM until 7PM Wednesday at the B.J. Maurer Ford Showroom, 327 Alwine Road, Boswell, off Route 30. Masks will be provided. Funeral mass 11AM, Thursday at All Saints Catholic Church, Boswell, Rev. Fr. Aron Maghsoudi, Celebrant. Committal St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Boswell, with graveside military rites accorded by the Somerset County Honor Guard. Flowers may be delivered directly to the dealership on Wednesday.
