LOHR - Betty J. (Ashby), 85, of Jenner Township, Somerset County, died December 8, 2020 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. Born March 16, 1935 in Lewisburg, KY. Daughter of Karl and Susan (McClure) Ashby. Preceded in death by parents; husband David A. Lohr; sister Martha Louise (Ashby) Neal; brothers Karl, Jimmy, and Claude Ashby. Survived by son Kevin married to Linda (Kenetski) Lohr, Wilmington, DE; grandchildren Alyssa, Gabriel, Edan and Logan and numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was a 1953 graduate of Auburn High School in Kentucky. She attended Bethel University in Tennessee and graduated from Scarritt College with a Master’s Degree in Religious Education. She taught elementary school for twenty-seven years in Benscreek and Conemaugh Township Area School District. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, and served as a guest speaker at Laurel Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Jennerstown. In her free time, Betty loved to play tennis, paint, sing and play guitar. In 2008, she was inducted into the Bethel University Athletic Hall of Fame. After retirement, she and her husband purchased a house boat and cruised the Intracoastal Waterway. She is best known for her patience, kindness, and dedication to helping others. A memorial service will be announced later and held at Laurel Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring, 2021. Inurnment Mt. Zion Cemetery.
