BARANIAK - Bernadette A., 79, of Boswell, died on Feb 11, 2023 at UPMC Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh. Berni, as she was referred to by all who knew her, was born in Johnstown on February 6, 1944. She was the only daughter of John C. and Margaret D. (Pero) Baraniak and shared a family home with her brothers John and Thomas. Preceded in death by parents and brother Dr. John M. Baraniak. She is survived by brother, Thomas Baraniak and his wife Gretchen; sister-in-law Melane Baraniak; beloved nieces, Ann M. Skradski and husband Thomas, Alison L. McAbee and husband Dr. Justin and cherished great nieces and nephews, Ada M. Skradski, Ivan T. Skradski, Mills R. McAbee and Sayler J. McAbee. After graduating in 1961 from JBJ High School in Boswell, Berni started her career at Community Bank in Boswell, then People’s Bank in Jennerstown, now First Commonwealth, where she made many wonderful lifelong friendships. She was a member of the Venture Club of Somerset County as she pursued her banking career. Berni spent her summers cooking and planning family picnics, working at Jennerstown Speedway, walking her dog and vacationing with her best friends at Rehoboth Beach. She was a devoted caregiver to her father in his later years. Also, she was an active member of All Saints Catholic Parish and a community volunteer. Berni was more than a special aunt to Ann and Alison, they were her whole world.
