Life Story for James W. Kaufman

KAUFMAN – James W., 92, Four Seasons Road, Jenner Township, Somerset County, died Nov. 4, 2014, at Country Manor Living, Jerome. Born Feb. 16, 1922, in Jenner Township, son of John M. and Elizabeth (Shaffer) Kaufman. Preceded in death by first wife, the former Blanche Heath, in 1971; second wife, the former Lillian (Snowball) Binnie, in 2002; sisters, Louella, Edna, Mary, Catherine, Erma, Daisy, Grace and Hazel; and brothers, Leon, Ralph, Martin, John and Harry. Survived by children, Joseph, married to Betsy Joswick; Michael, married to Marilyn Sinclair; and Angela, married to Butch Lyons, all of Jenner Township; grandchildren, Julia Kaufman, Pittsburgh; Tiffany (Kaufman) Prangnell, Maui, Hawaii; and Joshua Kaufman, San Francisco, Calif.; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Mildred Liska, Davidsville. Also survived by several stepgrand, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A 1940 graduate of the former Boswell High School, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theater of Operations and was awarded two Silver Stars. Retired self-employed dairy farmer and former Jenner Township supervisor. Member of Jennerstown United Methodist Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at Jennerstown United Methodist Church, Pastor Chuck F. Hildbold Jr., officiating. Interment, Jenner Crossroads Cemetery, with military rites accorded by Somerset County Honor Goard. Memorials to Touch of Love Fund, c/o Jim’s church, P.O.
