Life Story for Wayne J. Clifton

CLIFTON – Wayne J., 88, West End section of Johnstown, passed away peacefully March 29, 2014, surrounded by his family at Memorial Medical Center, after a long struggle with cardio/respiratory illnesses. Born May 8, 1925, in Wellington, Colo., son of James T., and Alice Dove (Smith) Clifton. Preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Elnora; daughter, Connie; three brothers; and two sisters. Survived by children, Elaine Tlush, Johnstown; Timothy Clifton, married to the former Anita Neuenschwander, Clendenin, W.Va.; Susan Clifton, Washington, D.C.; and David J. Clifton, married to the former Laurie Anderson, Johnstown; local granddaughter, Jennifer A. Mikesell, Johnstown; 12 other grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lorraine Glessner; and his beloved cats, Calico and Sissy. He was a Sunday school teacher and elder at the First Christian Church for many years and also the owner of Al’s Tire Service and a prominent businessman. Mr. Clifton was a decorated World War II ranger and hero, and was honored with a Bronze Star for valiantly serving his country at D-Day, Battle of the Bulge and many other battles. He was a 1947 graduate of the University of Colorado. Mr. Clifton enjoyed the outdoors, boating and fishing with his children. Wayne loved his family and was a good husband and father. Arrangements by Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Davidsville, are private, but there will be a graveside service held in late May. No flowers please, but cards and requests to attend graveside service may be sent to E. Clifton at 116 Garfield St., Johnstown, Pa. 15906.
